Easter Weekend Reflections : Let's Add More Love, Healing & Justice to the Success Equation

raindancerink.substack.com

Growing up, my family and I observed Holy Week, which is the most sacred week in the Christian tradition.  Since I grew up in the Catholic country, even more so. My father would close down business operations that week, and even though he wasn’t officially working, he was catching up on administration and accounting. Then of course, in Canada, April is associated with tax season. So earlier this month, like a strange unconscious pattern, I spent some time getting my money files in order, to prepare for tax season. Besides on birthdays and holidays, April is another time of the year that I think of my father more than usual.

I am glad for the brief reprieve this long weekend, because I sure could use it ~ even though my team and I will be working plenty preparing for THE WHEEL OF SUCCESS SUMMIT to officially begin on May 3rd.  That’s two weeks away!

The past couple of weeks have been really exciting, joyful, scary, and intense to the point where I felt myself on the brink of overwhelm. I do not do well on frenzied energy, and I’m not an anxious person at all, but there were many moments when the planning stress almost got the better of me, even as I am crystal clear on my “why” and vision for this educational and transformational training for heart-based entrepreneurs to grow their dream business and lifestyle. I took Friday off (except for 2 hours of work) and checked myself into a couple of wellness appointments, and the turnaround to more calm and balance was immediate.

Good Friday & Easter Sunday were not the only sacred holiday this week. Last Friday marked the beginning of Passover for our Jewish friends. Vaisakhi was celebrated a few days ago before that our Sikh and Hindu friends, which is a Spring Harvest Festival as well as the creation of the Khalsa order.

I love that each of these traditions share a common themes of freedom, justice, peace and ultimately, rebirth and resurrection.  It’s not just a Christian concept. Understood more broadly, they speak to our collective power to choose to transcend our current circumstances, whatever they may be, and choose differently.  And sometimes we need a little help, from fellow humans and beings, and from God. I spent a lot of time in prayer this week, as I’m sure many people did. It’s a good time for reflection.

April 2016 during Easter was the season that I raised my Christian faith from the spiritual death and despair that was my traumatized inner little girl who grew up in the church--then gave it up as a teenager. The main feature that I remember from that was eating fear for breakfast, guilt for lunch and shame for dinner. It has been a truly miraculous and hope-filled journey of resurrecting my faith. I feel blessed to re-discover what the heart of Christian faith is all about, which is following the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who was about love, healing and justice.

So this Easter season, as I prepare to pay taxes and launch into my first holistic business and leadership summit, I have been praying. I've been asking Spirit to help me be an instrument and a vessel for more love, healing and justice in the world. One of my favourite songs for this prayer is from St. Francis of Assissi, “Lord, Make Me An Instrument of Your Peace.”  My favourite musical rendition includes a Sikh prayer by Snatam Kaur.

Aad Sach : True in the beginning
Jugaad Sach : True thoughout the ages
Haib Hay Sach : True here and now
Nanak Hosee Bhay Sach : O Teacher, God shall forever be True

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

~ St. Francis of Assisi
