Peace Starts With Honouring Womxn, Mothers & Feminine Values

Where would the world be without women?

This week, we are celebrating women it is International Women’s Day on March 8th. I celebrate and honour all womxn, whose fierce souls, passionate hearts, beautiful minds and caring hands indeed make Mother Earth a more to kind and sustainable place to live in.

Women have this wonderful ability to hold and process so much all at one time, to bring kindness and compassion from the deepest wells of wisdom, from a soul foundation of strength knowing what’s truly important and honouring the greater good.

Today, as I feel the collective heartbreak and grief from the violence and suffering in Ukraine, I hold the vision and prayer for peace. Now more than ever, we need to uplift feminine values of hope and home which is under attack currently.  Let us persist in the name of peace.  In a world where women’s values take front and centre, I cannot imagine war and destruction prevailing.

Let us do our part in creating more safety and support within ourselves as women, and for the women in our community.

Here's a beautiful prayer from my colleague Cathy Merchant, Interfaith Leader at Living Interfaith Sanctuary:

During this difficult and heartbreaking time, let us pray for peace.

That those fleeing Ukraine be kept safe and welcomed into the loving arms of their neighbours.
That those staying to defend their homes and cities be protected and without fear.
That Russian soldiers be stopped from harming their Ukrainian kinsmen,
And that they themselves be protected and soon return home in safety.
That the invasion end immediately.
That Kyiv, Kharkiv, Mariupol, and Kherson not fall.
That the peace talks succeed,
And the tanks continue to fail.
That the hearts of those who brought about this war be cracked open with compassion and their heads with wisdom,
And that the actions of all leaders in this region be in service to all beings living there from this point on.

Om mani padme hum

How I Celebrated International Women's Day

There are many things wrong or broken in the world. It is not perfect. Sometimes when our outside world don’t reflect our inner hopes, dreams and desires, it can be easy to feel disheartened and lose hope.

I didn’t have the perfect introduction to the world, being born a girl in a patriarchal and male-oriented culture. I also didn’t have the ideal mother-daughter bond that is affirming and nourishing, which left me feeling emotionally orphaned and spiritually homeless for most of my young life. Over the past two decades since I was 15 years old, with the help of literally dozens of beautiful teachers and mentors, I’ve learned to heal from the inside out and mother myself. I’ve allowed myself to be loved and supported by other mother-mentor figures who taught me to honour my most tender feminine essence. In the process I had to bushwhack through and let go of generations of pain and shame.

This past Sunday, I hand-picked and gathered some of the most beautiful and wise women friends in my life who are also mothers, ranging from 30s to 70s. Forever in my heart are the love and connections at this special housewarming brunch + conscious pre-conception blessing. Of course there was a curated menu and I felt happy in my heart to cook and serve up yummy foods and even more delicious conversations. Feeling so blessed to have these women in my life.  I honour them especially this week, International Women’s Week.

Remember if you don’t see it out there, be brave enough to create it from the inside out even if no one else is doing it, or you feel vulnerable in the process. You are a powerful co-creator.  Life wants you to thrive.
